IKEA, a global leading home furnishing brand, works with several designated OEM factories in China that produce shopping woven bags, heavy-duty storage tote bags, woven storage bags, and non-woven shopping bags in large volumes. Handle strap sewing and reinforcement is the most labor-intensive key process in bag production.
Previously, the entire line relied on workers to manually position the webbing, operate treadle sewing machines, and finish with bartack reinforcement.
Pain points of the traditional manual process:
• Handle strap sewing positions varied and stitch density was inconsistent, making it hard to consistently meet IKEA's strict quality control standards;
• Large order volumes in peak season, a shortage of skilled sewing workers, and high staff turnover created production bottlenecks;
• Misaligned webbing and insufficient reinforcement caused handle bags to crack under load, keeping scrap and rework losses high;
• Many manual workstations drove up overall production costs through wages and thread waste.

• Solve the challenges of precise handle webbing sewing and double-end bartack reinforcement on PP and woven bags;
• Adapt to multiple IKEA shopping bag and storage bag specifications with quick pattern changeover;
• Reduce labor dependence on sewing stations, expand line capacity, and handle large-volume export orders;
• Unify stitching standards across all finished products, reduce scrap rates, and lower overall production costs;

3. Aijia Automation Customized Solution
Based on the fabric characteristics of IKEA's woven bags, heavy-duty PP bags, and non-woven tote bags, we deployed a fully automatic tote bag handle sewing and reinforcement machine. The machine is equipped with a Siemens PLC control system, Inovance servo drives, and AirTAC pneumatic positioning modules. It completes the integrated process automatically: feeding, webbing positioning, double-thread sewing, double-end bartack reinforcement, and automatic thread trimming and discharging.

4. Verified Results After Implementation
After IKEA supply chain partner factories fully adopted Aijia handle sewing automation equipment, line efficiency improved significantly:
